Position Overview

The Gift Shop Clerk/Cashier is responsible for receiving, pricing, and selling merchandise in the gift shop. The role emphasizes excellent customer service, maintaining a clean and inviting environment, and working independently. The position reports to the Manager of Volunteer Services & Gift Shop (interim-Executive Director, Philanthropy).

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Provide excellent customer service by greeting, welcoming, and assisting visitors.
2. Accurately operate the computer and computerized cash register.
3. Maintain organized and appealing displays, and keep the shop stocked.
4. Assist in pricing and selling merchandise.
5. Coordinate weekly with the Inventory Clerk regarding stock levels and customer feedback.
6. Handle cash transactions accurately, including giving change and managing returns.
7. Work independently and complete assigned tasks or projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; college coursework preferred.
• 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
• Proficiency in computer and cash register operation.
• Customer service and sales experience are advantageous.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Basic math skills and emotional resilience.

Physical and Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Visual and auditory acuity required.
• Flexible working hours, including some weekends, at either South or Main Campus.
