- The Gift Shop Clerk/Cashier performs responsibilities and duties related to receiving, pricing, and selling merchandise in gift shops. Duties include good customer service and maintaining a clean and inviting gift shop for visitors. Work independently, communicates effectively with visitors and staff, and provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all that visit the gift shop. Reports to the Manager of Volunteer Services & Gift Shop (interim-Executive Director, Philanthropy)
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills (greet, welcome and assist all visitors).
- Demonstrates accuracy on the computer and computerized cash register.
- Maintains, organizes, and keeps the shop stocked with neat displays.
- Assists in pricing and selling merchandise in gift shops.
- Coordinates weekly with the Inventory Clerk on product stock levels and/or suggestions based on customer feedback.
- Count out correct change when tendering cash.
- Manage returns of merchandise.
- Ability to work independently.
- Completes tasks or projects as assigned by Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; Two or more years of college preferred.
- 2-4 years of working experience.
- Customer service experience is a plus.
- Sales experience is a plus
- Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patients, family, peers, and medical personnel.
- Basic mathematical skills; Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change and receptive to delegated responsibilities and reassignment.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity required for specific activities.
- Must have normal hearing.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patients, family, peers, employees, and medical personnel.
- Flexible working hours and some weekends may be involved. (Standard operating hours: South CAmpus-8am-4:30pm; Main campus-8:30am-4 pm).
- Flexible to work at either South or Main Campus for training, projects or coverage, as necessary.
