Gift Shop Clerk/Cashier

The Gift Shop Clerk/Cashier performs responsibilities related to receiving, pricing, and selling merchandise in gift shops. Duties include providing excellent customer service, maintaining a clean and inviting shop environment, working independently, and effectively communicating with visitors and staff to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The role reports to the Manager of Volunteer Services & Gift Shop (interim-Executive Director, Philanthropy).

Responsibilities and Duties

• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills (greeting, welcoming, and assisting visitors).
• Accurately operate the computer and computerized cash register.
• Maintain, organize, and display merchandise neatly.
• Assist in pricing and selling merchandise.
• Coordinate weekly with the Inventory Clerk on stock levels and customer feedback suggestions.
• Count out correct change when handling cash transactions.
• Manage merchandise returns.
• Work independently and complete tasks or projects assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Work Experience

• High school diploma or GED; two or more years of college preferred.
• 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
• Customer service experience is advantageous.
• Sales experience is beneficial.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with patients, families, peers, and medical personnel.
• Basic mathematical skills; emotional stability and resilience; adaptability to change; receptive to delegated responsibilities and reassignments.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, with bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Visual acuity for specific activities.
• Normal hearing capabilities.
• Effective communication with patients, families, peers, employees, and medical staff.
• Flexible working hours; some weekends may be required. Standard hours: South Campus 8am-4:30pm; Main Campus 8:30am-4pm.
• Willingness to work at either South or Main Campus for training, projects, or coverage as needed.
