Job summary

The GI Lab Technician at Loyola University Medical Center Nursing supports endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy and EGD, assisting physicians and RNs, preparing rooms, collecting specimens, and handling endoscope reprocessing to maintain safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities include set up/breakdown, PPE, patient transport and positioning, monitoring equipment use under RN supervision, pre- and post-procedure care, and compliance with infection control standards.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of related healthcare or clinical experience.
• CPR certification is required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes.
• Knowledge of infection control and patient safety.
• Effective communication and teamwork.
• GI lab or clinical setting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain procedure rooms and equipment before/after each case.
• Assist during endoscopic procedures and with specimen collection.
• Transport patients to/from pre-op and post-op areas; assist with positioning.
• Support monitoring equipment, oxygen delivery and suctioning under RN supervision.
• Pre- and post-procedure care: cart prep/cleaning and patient escort.
• Endoscope reprocessing: pre-cleaning, manual cleaning and high-level disinfection.
• Stocking and general support: deliver specimens, stock supplies, maintain area.
• Adhere to patient safety standards and participate in quality improvement.
