Job summary

StoryPoint in Altoona, IA is seeking a Caregiver/Medication Manager to provide compassionate personal assistance to residents and help with everyday tasks while administering medications.

You will bathe, groom, monitor health signs, assist with mobility, and respond to emergencies. The role requires current CPR and First Aid certification, readiness to obtain on-site Medication Manager certification, and a genuine desire to work with the elderly.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to obtain Medication Manager certification on-site at community if not already certified.
• Previous Healthcare, Geriatrics or experience working with the elderly population preferred.
• Desire to work with geriatric population.
• Training per state requirements
• Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Bathe and clean residents as needed by bed bath, shower or whirlpool.
• Follow medication administration protocols for each resident.
• Assist in grooming: teeth, hair, nails, makeup, shaving.
• Make beds and keep rooms neat; tidy closets and surfaces.
• Respond to emergency calls promptly.
• Assist with bedpan, urinal, bedside commode or bathroom; monitor continence.
• Record vital signs and report unusual changes to nurse or ED.
• Assist in mobility and transfers; use lifting devices as needed.
• Maintain resident dignity and privacy; observe rights.
• Provide and participate in activity programming for residents.
• Assist in admission, transfer and discharge; prepare rooms for new residents.
• Complete daily assignment sheets using authorized abbreviations.
• Follow universal precautions and infection control procedures.
• Report accidents or abuse immediately.
• Maintain equipment and supplies; perform routine housekeeping.
• Carry out daily tasks as assigned; respond to emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned
