Job summary

Civil Science, Inc. is seeking a Materials Testing Intern for Summer 2027 in Shelley, Idaho.

You will gain hands-on experience testing soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates, working with experienced technicians and engineers on active roadway projects. You’ll assist in sample collection, documentation, and analysis, and learn to evaluate material performance while following safety protocols in field and laboratory settings.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, surveying, engineering technology, or a related program.
• Interest in transportation, construction, surveying, materials testing, or public infrastructure.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, take initiative, and take ownership of your work.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background and driving record checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory testing on construction materials (soil, asphalt, concrete, aggregates) per WAQTC standards.
• Assist in sample collection, preparation, and analysis for QA/QC.
• Document and report test results accurately.
• Support engineers and technicians in evaluating material performance.
• Follow safety protocols in lab and field settings.
• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment as needed.
• Travel to project sites across Idaho.
