Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Vancouver, WA is seeking an Engineering Intern to support the Geotechnical Department with design tasks, data collection, and project assistance. You will work under a geotechnical engineer and gain hands‑on experience.

The internship offers exposure to geotechnical design from concept through design completion, data compilation, and subsurface exploration planning, with opportunities to present findings and contribute to multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Pursuit of Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program strongly preferred.
• Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post‑secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Self‑motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design tasks and supporting project duties.
• Assist with filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and PowerPoint presentations.
• Assist with responses to general questions and ad hoc projects as assigned.
• Collect and analyze data and participate in continuous improvement efforts.
• Present solutions to concerns and research project-related problems.
