Three Notch Group in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer I to support preparation of engineering and design documents under a licensed Professional Engineer. This entry-level role offers hands-on field and office experience, collaboration with clients, and opportunities to develop technical proficiency and licensure.

The position emphasizes quality, schedule, and budget adherence, with training, software use (AutoCAD/Civil 3D), and potential for advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field.
• Engineer-in-Training certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, interpersonal, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with client communications and attend client or public meetings as needed.
• Use computer-aided design tools and engineering software to prepare engineering plans, reports, design documents, and construction documents.
• Visit project and construction sites to monitor progress, collect information, and support project requirements.
• Contribute to project quality-control activities and take responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of assigned work.
• Define technical problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions under appropriate supervision.
• Read and interpret engineering and construction documents, governmental regulations, technical procedures, and applicable design standards.
• Assist with the preparation and modification of specifications, studies, permits, plans, reports, designs, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.
• Prepare design computations and project deliverables under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, with increasing proficiency and independence.
• Communicate with project managers and practice leaders regarding assignments, schedule milestones, budgets, and project status.
