Job summary

Three Notch Group in Dothan, AL seeks a Geotechnical Engineer I to support development of high‑quality design documents under a licensed engineer. You will assist with plans, reports, costs, and field activities while growing technical proficiency and licensure.

The position targets an early‑career engineer eager to apply classroom knowledge, collaborate with clients, and gain field experience toward licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field with 0–2 years experience.
• Engineer‑in‑Training certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ability to perform essential engineering support duties in both office and field environments.
• Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods and to travel overnight occasionally.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds or more and work extended hours.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and construction-site environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with client communication and attend meetings as needed.
• Use AutoCAD and engineering software to prepare plans, reports, and construction documents.
• Visit project and construction sites to monitor progress and collect information.
• Contribute to project quality‑control activities and ensure work accuracy.
• Define technical problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions under supervision.
• Read and interpret engineering documents, regulations, and standards.
• Prepare specifications, studies, permits, plans, reports, and cost estimates.
• Prepare design computations and deliverables under supervision of a PE.
• Communicate with project managers regarding milestones, budgets, and status.
• Manage time to meet schedules and budgets.
• Participate in training, software development, and professional‑development opportunities.
• Pursue Engineer‑in‑Training certification and licensure.
• Follow company policies and perform other duties.
