Job summary

Xcellent Technology Solutions, Inc (XTS) is seeking an Applications Engineer to support USGS The National Map by maintaining public-facing applications, improving data presentation, and troubleshooting existing code. JavaScript is central, with AWS-based cloud workflows to automate data processing and scale solutions.

BA or higher in CS/SE/IT with 2+ years of relevant experience, strong problem-solving, and familiarity with AWS services like Lambda, S3, and EC2 are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE/IT or related field plus 2 years of software or applications engineering experience.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and ability to understand and improve existing code.
• Hands-on experience with AWS SDK and AWS CLI; familiarity with Lambda, S3, EC2.
• Strong fundamentals in version control, debugging, testing, algorithms, and data structures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with capacity to develop practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain public-facing applications for The National Map.
• Analyze existing code and implement improvements to functionality and performance.
• Troubleshoot issues and streamline data workflows in the cloud.
• Collaborate with the team to design scalable, maintainable solutions.
