Job summary

XTS is seeking an Applications Engineer to support USGS National Geospatial Tech Operations Center. You will work on public-facing applications, improve functionality, and optimize data workflows using JavaScript and AWS services.

You’ll join a veteran-owned company that values problem-solving and scalable solutions. Expect to collaborate across teams, understand existing code, troubleshoot and implement efficient improvements while maintaining long-term, maintainable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/related field plus 2 years in software or applications engineering.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and ability to understand and improve existing code.
• Experience with AWS SDK and AWS CLI; familiarity with Lambda, S3, EC2.
• Strong understanding of software fundamentals: version control, debugging, testing, algorithms, data structures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain public-facing applications for The National Map.
• Improve data presentation and functionality of existing apps.
• Troubleshoot issues and optimize cloud-based data workflows.
• Collaborate in a technical environment to deliver scalable solutions.
• Work with AWS to automate and streamline processes.
