Job summary

xtscareers is hiring an Applications Engineer to support USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center. You’ll work on public-facing applications, learn existing systems, and improve functionality and data presentation.

Key focus includes troubleshooting, code improvements, and building scalable workflows with AWS. Collaboration with a technical team is essential to deliver practical, maintainable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 2+ years of software or applications engineering experience.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and ability to understand and improve existing code.
• Hands-on experience with AWS SDK and AWS CLI; familiarity with Lambda, S3, EC2 for data workflows.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals: version control, debugging, testing, algorithms, data structures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center applications and public-facing tools.
• Enhance functionality, improve data presentation, and troubleshoot issues in existing apps.
• Automate cloud-based workflows using AWS to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Collaborate within a technical team to build maintainable solutions you can extend over time.
