Job summary

XTS is hiring an Applications Engineer to support the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center. You’ll join existing applications, learn their workings, and help enhance them, with a focus on readability, scalability, and maintainability of code.

You'll work primarily in JavaScript within AWS environments to automate data workflows, test solutions, and improve performance as needs evolve, collaborating in a practical technical setting to deliver robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field + 2 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and understanding of clean, efficient, maintainable code.
• Hands-on experience with AWS SDK and AWS CLI; familiarity with Lambda, S3, EC2 for cloud workflows.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals: version control, debugging, testing, algorithms, data structures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to derive practical solutions.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain adjudicated Public Trust; US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident for 3+ years.

Responsibilities

• Support existing public-facing applications for The National Map.
• Improve functionality and data presentation; troubleshoot issues and optimize data movement.
• Collaborate in a technical AWS/cloud environment to scale and automate workflows.
