Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Geologist (MS/PhD) for our Civil & Structural Engineering Practice in Los Angeles, CA or Oakland, CA. You will work on engineering geology, remote sensing, GIS, mapping, and geophysics to investigate failures of geotechnical systems and assess natural hazards.

This role offers technically challenging projects, growth within the firm, and collaboration with multidisciplinary experts across 500 universities. On-site work with opportunities to lead field investigations.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in geological sciences with Engineering Geology specialization.
M.S. in geological sciences with Engineering Geology specialization plus 5 years of experience.
Ability to become a licensed PG or PGP in at least one state within three years.
Experience in Geotechnical Engineering and Groundwater/Surface Water Hydrology is a strong plus.
Demonstrated excellence in coursework and/or fieldwork in geologic characterization and mapping; subsurface techniques a strong plus.
Experience with GIS modeling software, graphic software, and imaging software.
Strong analytical, field investigation, and critical thinking skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail and leadership.

Responsibilities

Conduct field inspections and subsurface explorations to determine causes of failure.
Evaluate and characterize site conditions for root cause analyses and mitigation design.
Create Geospatial and subsurface models using GIS.
Create topographic and thematic maps.
Assist with peer review of geologic and geotechnical documents.
