Job summary

Exponent seeks a Senior Geologist for its Civil & Structural Engineering practice in multiple West Coast locations. The role focuses on engineering geology, GIS, remote sensing, and geophysics for investigating failures and evaluating natural hazards. You will work within a multidisciplinary team on challenging projects and growth opportunities.

Requirements include a Ph.D. or M.S. in Geological Sciences with Engineering Geology focus and relevant field experience; licensure as PG/PGP, plus

Qualifications

Ph.D. in geological sciences specializing in Engineering Geology, from an accredited university, plus 3 years of experience.
Alternatively, an M.S. in geological sciences with specialization in Engineering Geology and 5 years of experience.
Licensed Professional Geologist (PG) or Geophysicist (PGP) in at least one state.
Ability to become a Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) or Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG).
Experience with geologic characterization, mapping, and geotechnical subsurface investigation techniques is a strong plus.
Experience with GIS modeling software, graphic software, and imaging software is a strong plus.
Strong written and verbal communication, leadership, and ability to work with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

Conduct field inspections and subsurface explorations to investigate failures in geotechnical systems.
Evaluate and characterize site conditions for root-cause analyses and mitigation design.
Create geospatial models including GIS and subsurface models.
Prepare topographic and thematic maps and assist with peer review of documents.
Evaluate construction claims and prepare technical reports.
Collaborate with engineers, scientists, staff, and clients on projects.
