Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Senior Geologist (MS/PhD) to join our Civil & Structural Engineering Practice across multiple locations including Los Angeles, Oakland, Bellevue, and Seattle. The role focuses on engineering geology, remote sensing, GIS, mapping, and geophysics for investigations of failures in geotechnical systems and natural hazard assessment.

You will lead field inspections, site condition evaluations, GIS model creation, and technical reporting while collaborating with engineers,

Qualifications

Ph.D. in geological sciences specializing in Engineering Geology with 3+ years of experience
MS in geological sciences with 5+ years of experience
Licensed professional Geologist (PG) or Geophysicist (PGP) in at least one state
Ability to become a Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) or Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG)
Experience in geologic characterization, mapping, and geotechnical subsurface investigations is a strong plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with clients

Responsibilities

Conduct field inspections and subsurface explorations to determine failure causes
Evaluate site conditions for root cause analyses and mitigation design
Create geospatial models including GIS and subsurface models
Prepare topographic and thematic maps
Assist with peer review of geologic and geotechnical documents
Evaluate construction claims and prepare technical reports
