Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System seeks an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist or MLT to join our team. This role supports the Convenient Care Center and Spring Emergency Center with a rotating 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m.

schedule, including at least one shift per pay period. Training requires 3–4 shifts per week for up to six weeks. The position demands generalist MLS experience, ASCP/AMT certification, and the ability to deliver accurate, timely diagnostic results in a fast-paced lab

Qualifications

• MLS certifications (ASCP/AMT/CM) eligible and certification within one year.
• Microbiology specialization requires specific credentials for SW/TMC labs.
• Molecular biology related degrees required for SW Molecular positions.
• SW/TMC labs in Microbiology/Blood Bank/Hematology/Chemistry require related credentials.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily laboratory operations including specimen collections, processing, quality control, testing, and reporting.
• Interprets, correlates, and verifies test results with knowledge of techniques and instrumentation.
• Maintains testing analyzers and performs instrument troubleshooting as needed.
• Performs clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow.
• Maintains ongoing education and test competencies for patient/ population served.
• Follows safety procedures for chemicals, biological specimens, and hazardous materials.
• Directs personnel and communicates exceptions; collaborates with hospital staff on specimens and orders.
• Supports point-of-care testing and blood bank operations for trauma services including massive transfusion protocols.
• Processes reference specimens and monitors pending results; may handle research specimens as assigned.
• Gains knowledge of system computers and vendor software; complies with hospital and regulatory standards.
• Supports customer service and quality initiatives; builds relationships with customers and facilitates corrective actions.
• Promotes PIC process and brand promises; participates in competency assessments and mentorship.
• May participate in peer interviews; performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science

Associate + Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/related fields

Doctoral/Masters/Bachelor’s in Microbiology (SW/TMC)
