General Surgery - Open Rank-General Surgeon (Finance)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of South Florida (USF), Department of Surgery, is seeking a well-trained, Board Certified and fellowship-trained General Surgeon at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to join a hospital-based practice. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical experience, excellent surgical skills and judgment, and demonstrate effective communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to team-based practice.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • Doctoral/Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization, with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate or Full Professor, typically will have produced creative work, professional writing, or research published in refereed and other professional journals, and be recognized as an authority in the field.
  • Candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in general surgery.

PREFERRED:

  • Board Certified/Eligible in general surgery with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching: Demonstrated skills in educating residents and medical students, actively participating in residency training and educational programs, and experienced with medical education at various levels.
  • Research: Participation in research studies and quality improvement activities.
  • Administrative: Completion of all required training courses, including hospital/trauma program courses such as Code of Conduct and coding courses.
  • Clinical: Provide intensive care services in the surgical trauma ICU, including day and night coverage, admitting complex trauma, emergency general surgery cases, and other surgical specialties such as transplant, surgical oncology, OB/GYN oncology, and ENT. Conduct patient history, physical exams, diagnostics, and develop treatment plans. Offer health counseling.
  • Other Duties: As assigned.
