Job summary

Aerotek in Windsor, CT seeks a General Production Worker / Coating Operator to operate coating and converting equipment and run machinery per product specs. Qualifications

  • 6+ months of machine operation or extrusion experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical skills and aptitude if no prior operating experience.

Job Title: General Production Worker / Coating Operator Job Description

This role focuses on operating coating and converting equipment to produce high-quality adhesive products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will set up and run machinery, monitor production quality, follow detailed work orders, and ensure all activities comply with established standards and procedures. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Load jumbo rolls of material onto the unwind station and prepare the machine for production according to product specifications.

  • Adjust machine components for each specific product, including setup for slitting and rewinding continuous strips of adhesive product onto cores.

  • Obtain and review work orders and bills of materials, and ensure all materials and components match the specified requirements.

  • Label finished products and cartons accurately and completely, following established inventory and documentation procedures.

  • Pack finished products into or onto the correct corrugated packaging, ensuring proper protection and identification of materials.

  • Produce adhesive products in a timely manner while meeting established quality standards and production targets.

  • Ensure all aspects of the operation comply with ISO procedures and internal quality and safety guidelines.

  • Acquire and stage materials specified in the work order bill of materials and load jumbo rolls onto the unwind as required.

  • Perform general equipment setup for the specified product, including adjustments necessary for coating, slitting, and rewinding operations.

  • Conduct required safety checks and inspections prior to start-up to verify that equipment and work areas are safe and ready for operation.

  • Document all required information related to production runs, materials, and inventory, following established inventory and work cell documentation procedures.

  • Efficiently produce all assigned types of adhesive products, maintaining consistency, accuracy, and minimal waste.

  • Inspect finished products for defects, identify nonconforming material, and set aside scrap according to established procedures.

  • Perform minor maintenance duties and basic repairs on equipment as needed to keep production running smoothly.

  • Maintain housekeeping standards within the work cell and assist with general department housekeeping to keep the facility clean and organized.

  • Promote teamwork by communicating effectively with coworkers, supporting colleagues, and contributing to a positive work environment.

  • Participate in training on first shift for up to several months to learn equipment, processes, and quality expectations before moving to the assigned shift.

  • Work scheduled 12-hour shifts and be prepared for additional hours that may be scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays to meet production demands.

Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team in a manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to a strong culture by maintaining a good attitude, showing up consistently, and working comfortably in a fast-paced environment.

  • At least 6 months of machine or equipment operating experience in a production setting is ideal, including experience as an extrusion operator or similar role.

  • If previous operating experience is not present, strong mechanical skills and mechanical aptitude are required.

  • Basic mathematical skills, including comfort working with fractions, to support measurements, counts, and machine settings.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time throughout a 12-hour shift.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as required by the job.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate setup, labeling, documentation, and quality inspection.

  • Willingness and ability to work 12-hour shifts, including overnight schedules (for example, 6:00 pm to 6:00 am).

  • Ownership and use of static dissipative safety shoes, especially when working in the coating department, to minimize static electricity buildup.

  • Comfort working in a loud production environment and following all required safety and personal protective equipment guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience as a coating operator, production operator, production technician, coating technician, laminator, slitter operator, extrusion operator, or general machine operator.

  • Background in general labor or machine operating roles in manufacturing or industrial settings.

  • Comfort using hand tools and basic mechanical tools to support equipment setup and minor maintenance.

  • Experience with inspection, assembly, or assembly line work in a production environment.

  • Familiarity with press brake or similar production equipment is a plus.

  • Ability to follow ISO procedures and documented work instructions.

  • Comfort working within a diverse workforce and contributing to an inclusive, respectful workplace.

  • Willingness to receive consistent feedback and participate in regular performance evaluations to support ongoing development.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean yet loud production environment, where adherence to safety and operational procedures is essential. Work takes place on 12-hour shifts, such as 6:00 pm to 6:00 am on schedules like Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, with training initially conducted on a first-shift schedule (for example, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm) for up to several months. Both day and night shift positions may include additional hours on Fridays and Saturdays to support production needs. Employees operate coating, slitting, rewinding, and related production equipment, and they use hand tools for setup and minor maintenance. Static dissipative safety shoes are required, especially in the coating department, to manage static electricity. In wet areas, employees must wear a hair net and maintain a clean-shaven appearance as part of the dress code and hygiene requirements. The environment is fast paced, team oriented, and focused on safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
