Job summary

Durham County Government is seeking aMaintenance Technician to perform a range of skilled and non-skilled trades across county facilities. The role involves carpentry, painting, custodial work, and grounds maintenance to ensure safe, functional buildings and spaces.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience. Candidates must be able to operate equipment and lift moderate to heavy loads as part of daily duties.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing skilled trades and maintenance work.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment safely.
  • Must be in good physical condition.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad range of skilled and non-skilled trades including carpentry, painting, custodial and grounds maintenance.
  • Identify problems, determine repairs, and carry out necessary work.
  • Replace components such as belts, motors and switches as needed.
  • Assist with cost estimates for repairs and maintenance.
  • Move office furniture and transport equipment within departments.
  • Maintain grounds around county buildings.
  • Operate vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Order and transport materials and supplies.
  • Install/repair street signs and gutters.
  • Remove trash and relocate furniture as required.
