Job summary

Justia, Inc. is seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead in-house legal, compliance, and public policy. You will be the primary advisor, oversee licensing and government affairs across states, and manage relationships with regulators while guiding strategic initiatives.

This remote role requires eligibility to relocate to the NYC metro area. You will work with cross-functional teams, manage outside counsel, and drive AI-powered legal workflows for a lean team.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active U.S. state bar.
• 5+ years of legal experience, including in-house.
• Experience with state licensing and regulators.
• Strong contracting skills and business-minded judgment.
• Startup mindset and independent work reliability.
• Enthusiasm for AI in legal practice.

Responsibilities

• Oversee corporate governance and entity management across US/UK/Malta/Serbia.
• Maintain licensing portfolios; manage filings, renewals, and suitability.
• Lead as Compliance Officer with privacy, AML/KYC, and consumer protection.
• Develop policies and lead training for teams.
• Manage outside counsel and legal budget.
• Support transactions, financings, and partnerships.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements; review marketing compliance.
• Advise on product launches and TOS/Privacy policy ownership.
• Handle disputes and litigation with outside counsel.
• Guide employment matters in US/Malta/Serbia and AI usage guidelines.
