Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced claims investigator to assess personal, casualty, and property losses, negotiate settlements, and support litigation as needed. The role requires strong communication, cost estimation, and data analysis skills, with designation expectations and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Investigate claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss/damages.
• Handle complex losses locally unassisted up to designated authority.
• Assist on larger losses including business interruption and stock.
• Examine claim forms and records to determine coverage.
• Interview claimants and witnesses; consult police/hospital records.
• Inspect property damage to determine liability; estimate costs.
• Prepare reports and negotiate settlements with claimants.
• Suggest litigation when settlements fail; attend hearings.

Job description

• Investigate claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss or damages


• Handle complex losses locally unassisted up to designated authority


• Assist on larger losses, including accounting-based losses such as business interruption and stock


• Examine claim forms and records to determine insurance coverage


• Interview, telephone, or correspond with claimants and witnesses


• Consult police and hospital records


• Inspect property damage to determine the extent of company liability


• Estimate repair, replacement, or compensation costs


• Prepare findings reports and negotiate settlements with claimants


• Recommend litigation by the legal department when settlements cannot be negotiated


• Attend litigation hearings


• Revise case reserves to cover probable costs


• Assist in preparing loss experience reports and calculate adequate future rates


• Perform other assigned duties and support quality programs


• Travel as required

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred


• Must have earned the IIA-AIC designation


• Must be actively pursuing another professional insurance designation


• Appropriate state adjuster license is required


• Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required


• Strong oral and written communication, including presentation skills


• PC literate, including Microsoft Office products


• Demonstrated commitment to timely reporting


• Strong customer service skills


• Strong interpersonal skills


• Attention to detail and accuracy


• Good time management and organizational skills


• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
