Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a GenAI Platform Engineer to lead the build and deployment of agentic AI solutions on Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Platform. This role designs, builds, and maintains RAG pipelines, model integrations, and production-grade integrations with client systems while collaborating with data and deployment engineers.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on GenAI experience, strong Python/SDK skills, and familiarity with GCP services; Google Cloud certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and deploying GenAI/agentic AI solutions in production.
• Direct experience with Gemini Enterprise Platform or Vertex AI; candidates who can ramp quickly on Google’s stack will be considered.
• Experience with large language models and prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or grounding techniques.
• Familiarity with the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
• Working knowledge of cloud data, compute, and access-control services (BigQuery/Snowflake, Cloud Run/GKE, IAM).
• Google Cloud certification preferred.
• Experience building retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines with enterprise data sources.
• Python and/or relevant SDKs for production-grade integrations.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy agentic assistants and GenAI applications on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
• Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and grounding using search capabilities.
• Integrate Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
• Evaluate and select foundation models from Model Garden based on client use case, cost, and performance.
• Fine-tune or prompt-engineer models to meet accuracy, safety, and FERPA-sensitive requirements.
• Monitor model performance and iterate based on client feedback and retrospectives.
• Build live API and tool-calling integrations so agentic solutions can act in client systems (SIS, ERP, casework).
• Maintain technical documentation of solution architecture, model configs, and integration points.
• Build reusable playbooks and connectors across engagements.
• Provide technical estimates, flag risks, and ensure delivery on schedule.
• Conduct code/configuration reviews to maintain quality and security standards.
• Be the quality gate in release readiness with Ops sign-off.
