Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a GenAI Platform Engineer to own the build and deployment of agentic AI solutions on Google Cloud, focused on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. You will translate backlog items into working solutions, implement RAG pipelines, and ensure high-quality delivery across education and SLED clients.

The role emphasizes platform integration, model selection, and tight collaboration with Data and AgentOps teams, with a hybrid work model and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and deploying GenAI/agentic AI solutions in production.
• Direct experience with Gemini Enterprise Platform or Vertex AI preferred.
• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or grounding techniques.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy agentic assistants on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform translating backlog into working solutions.
• Implement RAG pipelines and grounding using platform capabilities.
• Integrate A2A protocols and multi-agent orchestration where needed.
• Evaluate and select foundation models based on use case, cost, and performance.
• Fine-tune or prompt-engineer models to meet accuracy and FERPA-sensitive requirements.
• Build live API and tool-calling integrations with client systems (SIS, ERP, casework).
• Maintain solution architecture documentation and reusable connectors.
• Deliver technical estimates, flag risks, and ensure on-schedule delivery.
• Collaborate with Data Engineer and AgentOps Engineer on data pipelines and deployment.
