Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to own the data foundation for GenAI solutions across higher education and SLED clients. You will design, build, and maintain data pipelines on BigQuery/Dataflow, ensure data is clean, classified, and access-controlled for AI use.

You will collaborate with GCP/Gemini engineers, enforce governance, and document data flows. This hybrid remote role emphasizes FERPA compliance and scalable data practices.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines and ELT/ETL for analytics or GenAI on cloud platforms.
• Experience with data governance and classification tools (Dataplex, DLP) and FERPA familiarity.
• Strong SQL skills and Python for pipeline development.
• Experience with data integration from SIS/ERP and other systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow to ingest and serve client data for GenAI use cases.
• Build and maintain ELT/ETL processes for batch ingestion of client data into Google Cloud analytics and RAG data stores.
• Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost; optimize BigQuery usage and Dataflow jobs.
• Classify and tag client data using Dataplex and DLP; enforce data access controls and governance policies.
• Collaborate with client tech teams and internal engineers; document data flows and classifications.
