Job summary

General Motors Company is seeking a Process Engineer - Gears & Shafts to partner with GM plants, driving problem-solving initiatives and process improvements across gear and shaft operations.

You will work with manufacturing engineers, plant teams, suppliers, and leadership to improve safety, quality, cost, throughput, and environmental performance while developing expertise in gear and shaft manufacturing technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.
• Experience in manufacturing/process engineering or machining environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and structured methodologies.
• Understanding of plant-floor operations and continuous improvement principles.
• Ability to collaborate across multiple teams and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Partner with manufacturing plants to identify, prioritize, and resolve production and process challenges.
• Lead and support structured problem-solving activities related to safety, quality, cost, and throughput improvements.
• Analyze manufacturing data and process performance to identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide technical support and guidance for troubleshooting gear and shaft manufacturing processes.
• Drive scrap reduction, process capability improvements, equipment reliability, and uptime optimization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Support cost reduction, productivity, and operational excellence initiatives.
