Job summary

Amarillo Gear Company LLC in Amarillo, TX, is seeking an experienced CNC gear operator to produce precision gears on Gleason gear generating machines, following engineering drawings, gear specifications, and shop floor documentation.

You will verify machine offsets and tooling, install and true cutting tools, perform first-piece inspections with micrometers and dial indicators, and help meet production schedules while upholding quality, safety, and 5S standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to read engineering drawings and gear specifications.
• Experience with Gleason gear generators preferred.
• Knowledge of SPC and gear inspection equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Gleason gear generating machines to produce gears in accordance with drawings and specifications.
• Install and true cutting tools, workholding fixtures, arbors, and tooling as required for production.
• Verify machine offsets, tooling dimensions, and program parameters prior to production.
• Operate CNC gear generating equipment efficiently to produce quality parts while meeting production schedules.
• Verify shop floor documentation and drawings are current.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.
• Monitor tool wear and machine performance, replacing or adjusting tooling as necessary.
• Complete work orders in the order specified by supervisor or scheduling system.
• Record labor, production quantities, scrap, downtime, and inspection results.

Operate CNC Gleason gear generating equipment to manufacture precision gears in accordance with engineering drawings, gear specifications, work instructions, and shop floor documentation while maintaining quality and production standards.

Education/Training

High School Diploma or GED with machining certificate from a reputable trade school preferred or demonstrated experience operating CNC gear generating equipment in a manufacturing environment. Experience with Gleason gear generators and gear manufacturing processes preferred.

Special Skills

Employee must have thorough knowledge of blueprint and gear drawing interpretation, gear terminology, use of precision measuring equipment, and general understanding of CNC machine programming and operation. Must be familiar with gear cutting principles, tooling, machine setup, and inspection methods. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and gear inspection equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow setup sheets, work instructions, and programming documentation to set up and operate CNC Gleason gear generating machines to produce gears in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.


• Install and true cutting tools, workholding fixtures, arbors, and machine tooling as required for each production run.


• Verify machine offsets, tooling dimensions, and program parameters prior to production.


• Operate CNC gear generating equipment efficiently to produce quality parts while meeting production schedules.


• Verify shop floor documentation and engineering drawings are at the current revision level before beginning production.


• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, gear measurement equipment, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.


• Monitor tool wear and machine performance, replacing or adjusting tooling as necessary to maintain product quality and maximize tool life.


• Complete work orders in the order specified by the supervisor or shop scheduling system.


• Record labor, production quantities, scrap, downtime, and inspection results in the shop floor scheduling system.


• Identify and report machine malfunctions, tooling issues, and quality concerns to the Area Lead or Maintenance personnel.


• Maintain required coolant levels, lubrication systems, and perform routine operator preventive maintenance.


• Follow all safety requirements. Read, understand, and always follow job-specific JSA and work in a safe manner.


• Sustain the 5S ratings of the work area.


• Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Standing for up to 12 hours per day.


• Lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.


• Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting.


• Frequent use of hands for handling tooling, fixtures, measuring instruments, and machine controls.


• Ability to distinguish fine visual details necessary for inspecting gear tooth profiles, surface finish, and dimensional characteristics.


• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, metal chips, cutting fluids, and varying temperatures while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
