Job summary

John Crane, a business of Smiths Group, is seeking a Gas Seals Reliability Engineer to support external customers on design, manufacture, build and test. This role reports to the Gas Seals Reliability Manager and is based at the Morton Grove headquarters with standard weekday hours.

The successful candidate will assess issues, perform analyses, prepare technical feedback, and assist sales in technical meetings while collaborating with Development Engineering and Operations to drive progress.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering experience with rotating equipment and oil & gas is preferred.
• Ability to read P&ID, GA and detail drawings.
• Experience with failure analysis and root cause analysis is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills and commercial awareness.
• Capable of independent work and leading meetings.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate in-house test failures and assess dry gas seal designs for solutions.
• Perform calculations and analyses for unknown factors tied to mechanisms.
• Prepare and present technical presentations to customers.
• Provide technical feedback to internal and external customers.
• Support sales teams in technical meetings to resolve issues and build relationships.
• Collaborate with Development Engineering when developing solutions.
• Coordinate with Operations to keep stakeholders informed of progress.
• Create concept CAD sketches to convey design modifications.
• Deliver detailed technical support to customer queries.
• Maintain professional image through effective communication.
