Job summary

Xcel Energy Inc. is seeking an Engineering Intern to support gas hydraulic models across our service territory. You will gain hands-on experience with modeling tools and data management under mentorship from senior engineers.

The internship runs with a May 31, 2027 start date and could extend based on performance. Applicants must be enrolled in ABET-accredited programs in Engineering or Physics and be able to work full-time in summer, with hybrid in-person requirements.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027).
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering and/or Physics.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Performs gas model development, model verification, and analysis using Synergi Gas or similar software.
• Develops documentation and may assist with the development of modeling procedures and training materials.
• Development of technical skillsets in gas system modeling, data management, and investigating model discrepancies.
• Explores or implements new processes and automation tools to improve model accuracy, usability, and traceability.
