Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a summer internship in Gas Distribution Operations designed for students pursuing engineering, construction management, business, or data analytics. You will gain hands-on exposure to gas systems, safety, and data analysis while supporting field and office personnel.

The internship runs with a May 31, 2027 start date and may extend based on performance and business needs. This role is hybrid, with opportunities to develop dashboards using Excel and Power BI and

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027).
• Enrolled in a college/university pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week) in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Analyze operational data and performance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Support gas distribution projects related to system reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with tracking construction, maintenance, and emergency response activities.
• Participate in field visits to observe gas distribution operations and understand work practices.
• Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership and operational teams.
• Review SOPs and recommend process efficiencies.
• Support asset management and data quality improvement efforts within company systems.
