Job summary

NiSource is seeking an entry-level Operations Field Technician in Ohio, with progression to Field Technician 2 after two years upon successful training and Operator Qualifications. You will install, repair, and replace distribution facilities, operate light earth-moving equipment, and support residential and commercial customers.

The role requires DOT safety compliance, CDL eligibility, and ability to work in all weather.

Qualifications

• Must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
• Must be able to obtain a valid Ohio operators and commercial driver's license (CDL) and certification to operate company trucks under the DOT/Ohio Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for intrastate drivers within 3 months of being awarded the job.
• Must be able to perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
• Must have ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Dependable in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
• Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges & dials
• Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Job requires working in all weather conditions.
• All positions are subject to applicable DOT (Department of Transportation) Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations.
• All positions must be able to respond to emergency calls and work scheduled and nonscheduled overtime.
• Successful candidates must pass pre-employment Attitude Assessment, Aptitude Testing, Physical Capability Assessment, Drug Screen, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) screen and Background report.
• Successful candidates must abide by area specific living requirements.
• Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations concerning pipeline safety and underground construction practices

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and replace distribution facilities and operate construction equipment.
• Serve the needs of residential and commercial customers.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment (backhoe, side boom, tamper, hydra-crane) and maintain it.
• Read gauges and dials; perform basic maintenance and transport equipment/materials.
