Purpose of Position
Maintains University Grounds and Landscaping
Responsibilities
- Possess knowledge of flowers, shrubs, and trees commonly grown in California and maintain plant material and turf in a neat condition.
- Identify and address plant diseases, pests, and general plant health issues, including applying fertilizers and pesticides.
- Operate, clean, and maintain hand and power tools safely, such as mowers, blowers, trimmers, and more.
- Understand and use personal safety equipment for all machinery and tasks.
- Operate manual irrigation systems and perform minor repairs.
- Keep landscaped areas, sidewalks, and parking lots free of debris and weeds.
- Replace damaged turf and plants, transplant flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Install soil amendments and header boards for new plantings.
- Recommend plant selections, maintenance methods, and landscape designs.
- Perform manual labor for irrigation and landscaping projects.
- Assist with furniture moves, deliveries, and setup for indoor and outdoor events.
Qualifications
- At least four (4) years of experience in landscape maintenance and related tasks.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Ability to pass a physical exam for pesticide respirator use.
- Preferred: Completion of recognized landscape maintenance courses.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under general supervision.
- Proficient in following written and oral instructions in English and basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations relevant to landscaping work.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 65 lbs.
- Willingness to perform frequent kneeling, bending, and work at heights with ladders or lifts.
