Job summary

Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey is seeking a helpline support professional to answer the 800-GAMBLER calls from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The role includes crisis intervention, assessments, and referrals to treatment and support services within a community-based network.

The position also involves updating and sharing resources, preparing informational literature, and participating in staff and committee meetings to advance education and outreach on problem gambling

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of peer counseling, lived experience, or addiction recovery preferred.
• Spanish speaking encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Answers 800-GAMBLER Helpline calls from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm M-F.
• Provide support for the state's 800-GAMBLER helpline and education outreach.
• Conduct initial assessment to determine caller needs.
• Provide crisis intervention and health education; refer to resources.
• Update referrals and maintenance of treatment lists and meetings.
• Maintain listings of providers and share with staff.
• Prepare and distribute informational literature.
• Provide referral services with network providers.
• Participate in staff meetings and conferences.
• Participate in helpline committee and modernization meetings.
• Liaison between organizations on helpline issues.
• Prepare reports and maintain outreach records.
• Input helpline data; compile statistics as requested.
• Maintain good relationships within the helpline network.
• Other related duties as assigned.
