Job Description

This job is a Federal Work Study, non-benefited position in the Computer Science Division that reports to the Cybersecurity Program Director. Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program by the Department of Education. This program provides part-time jobs for undergraduate students with significant financial need and is administered by the FWS Coordinator, and the Office of Financial Aid, in accordance with the law, federal regulations, and with instructions from the United States Department of Education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be eligible for funds through the Federal Work Study Program for the current semester at Gwinnett Technical College and be in good academic standing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and prioritize workload;
  • Ability to handle power tools such as drill press under direction;
  • Ability to use proper judgment in selecting which issues to handle or re-direct;
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and move boxes and equipment up to 50lbs.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language is commonly used in cybersecurity (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and solve cybersecurity-related issues.
  • Must be enrolled in the Cybersecurity program at Gwinnett Technical College.
  • Must have a basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices, familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux) and networking concepts, and knowledge of common cybersecurity tools and technologies.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to explain technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Must have a willingness to learn from and share knowledge with peers.
  • Must have a proactive attitude and the ability to take initiative in learning and applying new skills.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality and security of information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Self-motivated with a passion for cybersecurity.

Job Description Summary

Under close supervision, assists in organizing and executing routine activities and special projects including cleanup after projects within the Information Technology Department. Assist with Inventory of equipment for surplus and disposal. Other duties as assigned.
