Post University is seeking a Youth Mentor to assist the Afterschool Program Coordinator at the BAGS Foundation site in Waterbury, CT. The role supports daily program operations and student activities, with hours up to 20 per week and a pay range of $17.50–$20 per hour.

The ideal candidate is an active Post University student, 18+, with experience with school-aged children, strong communication, and teamwork skills. Positions require after-school availability and a background screen.

Qualifications

• Must be a current Post University student.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• 2+ years of experience with school-aged children.
• Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
• Background screening will be conducted.
• Approved for Federal Work-Study (FWS).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily operation of the after-school program.
• Create athletics programs and healthy eating activities.
• Communicate accidents or incidents to parents.
• Maintain positive relationships with families and school personnel.
• Prepare program space and organize supplies/equipment.
• Update monthly activity calendars.
• Coordinate special events (holiday parties, talent shows).
• Daily set up and clean up of the site.
• Support social/emotional development.
• Support student academics and reading.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings.
• First Aid/CPR certification within 1 month of hire.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Regular attendance is essential.

Position Title: Youth Mentor

Department: Compliance

Reports To: Nicole Steck / BAGS Foundation Afterschool Program Coordinator

Location: BAGS Foundation - 541 Wolcott Street, Waterbury, CT

Rate of Pay: $17.50 - $20/hr

Position Summary

Assists the Afterschool Program Coordinator with the following duties and functions. The qualified candidate will work toward or already possess a degree in education, early childhood education, or a related field, have experience working with school-aged children, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be available during after-school hours Monday-Thursday-Hours vary (up to 20 hours per week)- Hours subject to change based on organization need.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist to coordinate the daily operation of the after-school program.
• Create and coordinate athletics programs to enrich the student's experience, create workouts, and encourage healthy eating choices. Work with children and provide a safe, welcoming environment.
• Document and communicate with parents any accidents or incidents that have occurred with youth during programming
• Maintain positive relationships with families, children, and school personnel
• Responsible for preparing program space for each activity, to include organizing. supplies, organizing equipment and informing supervisor of needed equipment or supplies.
• Assist in maintaining and updating monthly activity calendars for program.
• Assist in coordinating special events (Holiday parties, talent shows, etc.)
• Daily set up and clean-up of program site.
• Support social/emotional development.
• Support student academics & reading.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings as scheduled.
• First Aid/CPR/ certification to be acquired within 1 month of hire.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Regular and consistent attendance is considered an essential function of this position.

Qualifications & Skills

• Must be a current Post University student
• High school diploma or GED
• Working towards a degree in early childhood education, Education, psychology, or a related field preferred (may be substituted with years of experience)
• 2+ years of experience working with School Aged Children.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Clean driving record and valid driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of Child Development.
• Awareness of Age-Appropriate curriculum activities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
