Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. in Winchester, VA, is seeking a Manager Trainee to learn the management of a small driver count and non-traditional shifts, including nights and weekends, while ensuring safe and timely movement of freight and top-notch customer service.

This role will be trained to comply with DOT regulations and oversee drivers' compliance with company policies. Under supervision, you will coordinate with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or HS diploma with relevant experience required.
• Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company locations.
• Ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and weekends.
• Willingness to relocate regionally based on account assignment.

Responsibilities

• Learn to build and maintain relationships with drivers and outside carriers to ensure onboarding and productivity.
• Fill in for absent personnel and work on projects to optimize fleet operations and profitability.
• Learn personnel management including training and orientation of drivers and staff.
• Assist in maximizing fleet efficiency, analyze KPIs, and present customer reporting.
• Assist in managing inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment.
• Perform payroll, budgeting reviews, pay issue analysis, and prepare operational/financial reports.
• Assist in yard management, equipment checks, maintenance coordination and safety compliance.
• Collaborate with drivers, customers, and staff to resolve service issues and routing plans.
• Maintain safety culture with daily messages, training, and compliance with DOT regulations.
• Plan loads, routes, monitor freight movement, and manage exceptions and ETA adjustments.
