Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems invites applications for a Microwave Engineering Intern to join our team in Devens, MA. The internship emphasizes hands-on work with millimeter-wave diagnostics, RF components, and optical assemblies, with projects varying by team needs and current research directions.

Interns must be enrolled in a degree program (Bachelor’s to PhD) and authorized to work in the United States. 13–18 week duration, 40–50 hours/week, on-site with housing/transportation duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering or Photonics Engineering.
• Experience in electromagnetics, optics, or antennas is desirable.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills should be demonstrated.
• Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Work with millimeter wave diagnostic systems, including edge-scanning reflectometry and electron cyclotron emission.
• Build, test and analyze data for passive RF components and optical assemblies (waveguides, antennas, mirrors).
• Perform electromagnetic calculations of transmission, reflection and loss.
