Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC is seeking a motivated Materials Test Engineering Intern to join our cutting-edge team in Devens, MA. You will support test development and material performance evaluation for critical fusion components in a fast-paced R&D environment.

The internship runs 13–18 weeks, 40–50 hours/week, with hourly pay based on year in school. On-site transportation/housing is the intern’s responsibility; opportunities span from bachelor’s to PhD levels.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in Materials or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with FTIR, Optical and SEM imaging and polishing and sample preparation.
• Interest or experience with materials science, metallurgy, mechanical testing, or instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day operations and test development in the Materials Test Lab, including sample prep, test execution, data collection and analysis.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to evaluate material performance for fusion components.
• Contribute to custom test development projects.
• Assist with commissioning equipment and developing testing recipes.
