Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC seeks a Microwave Engineering Intern to join our Devens, MA team for 13–18 weeks of hands-on experience with millimeter-wave diagnostics and RF/optical components. Interns are placed in meaningful projects and gain real-world EM exposure.

We welcome enrolled students from bachelor to PhD levels. The program runs 13–18 weeks, 40–50 hours/week, on-site in the United States with salary aligned to year in school.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in the field of Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering or Photonics Engineering
• Classwork (or a demonstrated interest) in electromagnetics, optics, or antennas
• Experience in an RF, microwave, millimeter-wave or optics lab
• Software experience with electromagnetic calculations (e.g. Ansys Electronics Desktop, Comsol, finite elements methods), matlab, CAD modeling
• Demonstration of exceptional results through a range of different pursuits
• High self-motivation and drive to execute quickly with excellent troubleshooting/problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

• Working with the millimeter wave diagnostic systems, including edge-scanning reflectometry and electron cyclotron emission
• Building, testing and/or data analysis of passive RF components and optical assemblies, such as: rectangular waveguide, circular waveguide, frequency-dependent couplers, antennas, optical mirrors and polarizers
• Electromagnetic calculations of transmission, reflection, and loss
