Job summary

The Bachrach Group is seeking a Controller to oversee the finance operations of a hedge fund focused on credit investments. The role requires deep experience in hedge fund accounting, including credit restructurings and emerging markets credit.

The Controller will manage monthly to yearly financial statements, capital calls, distributions, and investor reporting while leading a fund accounting team and ensuring robust internal controls and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • 7+ years of hedge fund accounting experience, focused on credit investments.
  • Experience with credit, private credit and credit restructurings is preferred.
  • Emerging markets credit knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP for hedge funds.
  • Proficiency with the Geneva accounting system.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all fund vehicles (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Ensure accuracy of financial reporting per GAAP, regulatory requirements (SEC, AIFMD), and investor standards.
  • Prepare and review investor capital calls and distributions.
  • Produce performance reports for investors and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervise fund accounting team including assistant controller/senior fund accountant and fund accountant.
  • Oversee daily recording of all fund transactions (investments, dividends, interest, expenses, capital calls).
  • Manage reconciliation of bank, brokerage, and investor accounts.
  • Ensure timely processing of investor subscriptions and redemptions.
  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity; mitigate financial/operational risks.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard financial records; participate in special projects.

Job description

Our client is a leading hedge fund. The firm is seeking a Controller to cover their credit funds. Investments include performing and nonperforming corporate debt, private debt, high-yield, and developed and emerging markets government bonds.

The Hedge Fund Controller is a critical member of the Finance team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the fund's financial operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in hedge fund accounting, with a particular focus on credit investments, including private credit, and credit restructurings. Experience with emerging markets credit is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all fund vehicles, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, AIFMD), and investor reporting standards.
  • Prepare and review investor capital calls and distributions.
  • Manage the production of performance reports for investors and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the fund accounting team, including the assistant controller/senior fund accountant and fund accountant.
  • Oversee the daily recording of all fund transactions, including investments, dividends, interest income, expenses, and capital calls.
  • Manage the reconciliation of all fund accounts, including bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and investor accounts.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of all investor subscriptions and redemptions.
  • Monitor and manage fund cash flow and liquidity.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in hedge fund accounting, with a strong emphasis on credit investments.
  • Proven experience with credit, private credit, and/or credit restructurings.
  • Experience with emerging markets credit is a significant plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles applicable to hedge funds.
  • Strong experience with the Geneva accounting system is essential.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
