Job summary

Rockwood Search is seeking a seasoned Controller to own the accounting, reporting, and regulatory functions for a fund complex, with exposure to external investments and family office accounting. This role drives NAV close, P&L, and regulatory filings, collaborating closely with management and tax teams.

The ideal candidate brings 7–12 years in hedge fund accounting, strong NAV and fee knowledge, and hands-on Form PF/13F experience, with a keen eye for automation and AI-enhanced workflows.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years in fund accounting, administration, or audit.
• Hedge fund Controller experience preferred.
• Strong NAV close and fee calculations knowledge.
• Experience with Form PF and 13F filings a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end and year-end NAV close across fund entities.
• Oversee daily position, P&L, cash, and margin reconciliations.
• Calculate and review investor allocations, capital accounts, and management/incentive fees.
• Produce annual GAAP financial statements and manage the audit process.
• Own Form PF, 13F, and other regulatory filings.
• Oversee accounting and reporting for SMAs and third-party fund investments.
• Partner with management company and family office on accounting and tax matters.
• Support U.S. tax planning involving fund income character and allocation.
• Participate in the firm’s structured trading committee.
• Manage administrator oversight, books and records, and control environment.
• Identify opportunities to automate accounting, reconciliation, and reporting.

This is a broader and more dynamic opportunity than a traditional fund controller position. The Controller will own the accounting, reporting, and regulatory functions for the fund complex while gaining exposure to external investments, family office accounting, and sophisticated U.S. tax planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end and year-end NAV close across fund entities
• Oversee daily position, P&L, cash, and margin reconciliations
• Calculate and review investor allocations, capital accounts, and management and incentive fees
• Produce annual GAAP financial statements and manage the audit process
• Own Form PF, 13F, and other applicable regulatory filings
• Oversee accounting and reporting for SMAs and third-party fund investments
• Partner with the management company and family office teams on accounting and tax matters
• Support U.S. tax planning involving the character and allocation of fund income
• Participate in the firm’s structured trading committee
• Manage administrator oversight, books and records, and the control environment
• Identify opportunities to automate accounting, reconciliation, and reporting processes

Qualifications

• 7 -12 years of relevant fund accounting, fund administration, or audit experience. Public + Private experience preferred.
• Meaningful experience as a hedge fund Controller or Assistant Controller
• Strong understanding of the NAV close, daily reconciliations, investor allocations, capital accounts, and fee calculations
• Hands-on experience preparing Form PF and 13F filings
• Knowledge of macro products, including rates, FX, futures, sovereign debt, credit instruments, equities, commodities, and derivatives
• Strong understanding of how fund income and its tax character flow through to U.S. investors
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with data and automation tools
• Genuine interest in using AI to improve accounting and reporting workflows
