Job summary

The Bachrach Group represents a leading hedge fund seeking a Controller to oversee credit fund accounting, including private credit and credit restructurings. The successful candidate will manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, investor reporting, capital calls, and liquidity management, while supervising the fund accounting team.

Strong GAAP knowledge, proficiency with the Geneva system, and excellent analytical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA or equivalent designation preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years hedge fund accounting experience focusing on credit investments.
  • Experience with credit, private credit, and/or restructurings.
  • Emerging markets credit experience a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and hedge fund accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with the Geneva accounting system.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate; able to work independently and in teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual fund financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow).
  • Ensure GAAP/regulatory/investor reporting accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare investor capital calls and distributions.
  • Produce performance reports for investors and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervise the fund accounting team operations.
  • Oversee daily recording of all fund transactions.
  • Manage reconciliation of bank, brokerage, and investor accounts.
  • Monitor fund cash flow and liquidity; manage subscriptions/redemptions.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
  • Implement internal controls and assist with new policies.
  • Participate in special projects.
  • Assist with policy and procedure development.

Job description

Our client is a leading hedge fund. The firm is seeking a Controller to cover their credit funds. Investments include performing and nonperforming corporate debt, private debt, high-yield, and developed and emerging markets government bonds.

The Hedge Fund Controller is a critical member of the Finance team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the fund's financial operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in hedge fund accounting, with a particular focus on credit investments, including private credit, and credit restructurings. Experience with emerging markets credit is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all fund vehicles, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, AIFMD), and investor reporting standards.
  • Prepare and review investor capital calls and distributions.
  • Manage the production of performance reports for investors and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the fund accounting team, including the assistant controller/senior fund accountant and fund accountant.
  • Oversee the daily recording of all fund transactions, including investments, dividends, interest income, expenses, and capital calls.
  • Manage the reconciliation of all fund accounts, including bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and investor accounts.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of all investor subscriptions and redemptions.Monitor and manage fund cash flow and liquidity.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in hedge fund accounting, with a strong emphasis on credit investments.
  • Proven experience with credit, private credit, and/or credit restructurings.
  • Experience with emerging markets credit is a significant plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles applicable to hedge funds.
  • Strong experience with the Geneva accounting system is essential.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
