Job summary

Insight Global in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Functional Safety Platform Systems Engineer to translate concepts into clear requirements in JAMA Connect and support V&V across EV platforms.

This junior-to-mid-level role offers exposure to ISO 26262, traceability, and cross-functional reviews, with hands-on testing of EV subsystems such as battery management, powertrain, charging, and thermal systems in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–4 years of systems engineering, requirements engineering, or V&V experience.
  • Exposure to JAMA Connect or similar ALM tools.
  • Understanding of requirements traceability and review workflows.
  • Ability to read system diagrams and design specs.
  • Willingness to learn EV systems and automotive development processes.
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 or ASPICE is a plus.
  • Hands-on testing experience (bench, HIL) preferable.
  • Experience with defect-tracking tools (JIRA, ALM).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain functional and non-functional system requirements in JAMA.
  • Maintain traceability to system designs and architecture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and approve requirements.
  • Create and manage test cases and procedures with full traceability.
  • Support V&V results alignment and issue resolution.
  • Participate in hands-on testing including bench, HIL, and vehicle validation.

Job Description

We are seeking a Functional Safety Platform Systems Engineer to support the development of next-generation Electric Vehicle (EV) systems. In this role, you will translate system concepts, designs, and architectures into clear, traceable requirements within JAMA Connect, while supporting verification, validation, and functional safety activities across EV platforms.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior-to-mid-level engineer with a foundational understanding of systems engineering, requirements management, and testing who is looking to grow in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and maintain functional and non-functional system requirements in JAMA
  • Connect, ensuring traceability to system designs and architecture.
  • Collaborate with systems, architecture, design, and functional safety teams to review, refine, and approve requirements.
  • Create and manage test cases and procedures derived from approved requirements, maintaining full requirement-to-test traceability.
  • Support formal review and approval processes for requirements and test artifacts.
  • Review verification and validation (V&V) results to ensure alignment with approved test cases and acceptance criteria.
  • Investigate test discrepancies and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues.
  • Participate in hands-on testing activities, including bench, HIL, and vehicle-level validation of EV subsystems such as battery management, powertrain, charging, thermal management, and vehicle controls.
  • Support Functional Safety development by contributing to ISO 26262 compliance activities and EGAS Level 3 safety concepts, including multi-level monitoring architectures.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support design reviews, test readiness reviews, and program milestones.
  • Continuously develop expertise in EV systems engineering, functional safety, and automotive development processes.

Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Automotive Engineering (or related field).
  • 1–4 years of experience in systems engineering, requirements engineering, or test/V&V roles (automotive or related industry preferred).
  • Exposure to our working knowledge of JAMA Connect or similar requirements/ALM tools (DOORS, Polarion, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of requirement traceability and review/approval workflows.
  • Ability to read and interpret system architecture diagrams and design specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and written/verbal communication.
  • Willingness to learn EV‑specific systems (battery, powertrain, charging, thermal management, or ADAS/vehicle controls). Internship, co‑op, or prior work experience in automotive or EV product development.
  • Familiarity with automotive standards such as ISO 26262 (functional safety) or ASPICE.
  • Basic hands‑on testing experience (bench setups, HIL, data acquisition tools).
  • Exposure to defect tracking tools (JIRA, ALM) and how they integrate with requirements/test management
