Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn is seeking a Functional Safety Platform Systems Engineer to support the development of next-generation Electric Vehicle platforms. This role focuses on systems engineering, requirements management, and V&V within a fast-paced automotive setting.

You will create and manage requirements in JAMA Connect, ensure traceability to architecture, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine and approve requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field.
• 1–4 years in systems engineering, requirements engineering, testing, or V&V.
• Experience with ALM/requirements tools such as JAMA Connect or DOORS.
• Understanding of requirements traceability and review workflows.
• Ability to read system architecture diagrams and specs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and maintain functional and non-functional system requirements in JAMA Connect.

Job Description: FORD (EV) - Functional Safety Platform Systems Engineer - Dearborn MI

We're hiring a Functional Safety Platform Systems Engineer to support the development of next-generation Electric Vehicle (EV) platforms. This is a great opportunity for an engineer with experience in systems engineering, requirements management, or verification & validation (V&V) who is looking to grow in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and maintain functional and non-functional system requirements in JAMA Connect


• Ensure requirements traceability to system architecture and design


• Collaborate with systems, architecture, design, and functional safety teams to refine and approve requirements


• Create and manage test cases and procedures derived from approved requirements


• Maintain full requirements-to-test traceability


• Support formal review and approval processes for requirements and test artifacts


• Review verification and validation (V&V) results against acceptance criteria


• Investigate test discrepancies and partner with engineering teams to resolve issues


• Participate in bench, HIL, and vehicle-level testing of EV subsystems, including: Battery Management Systems (BMS), Powertrain, Charging Systems, Thermal Management, Vehicle Controls


• Support ISO 26262 functional safety activities and EGAS Level 3 safety concepts


• Maintain audit-ready documentation and support design reviews, test readiness reviews, and program milestones

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field


• 1-4 years of experience in systems engineering, requirements engineering, testing, or V&V


• Experience with JAMA Connect or similar ALM/requirements tools (DOORS, Polarion, etc.)


• Understanding of requirements traceability and review/approval workflows


• Ability to read and interpret system architecture diagrams and design specifications


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills


• Interest in EV systems such as batteries, powertrain, charging, thermal management, ADAS, or vehicle controls

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship, co-op, or professional experience in automotive or EV product development


• Familiarity with ISO 26262 and/or ASPICE


• Hands-on testing experience with bench setups, HIL environments, or data acquisition tools


• Experience with defect tracking tools such as JIRA or ALM platforms


• Exposure to requirements, test management, and validation processes
