Job summary

GI Associates is seeking a full-time Medical Coder to join our growing team and support accurate coding for professional and ASC services. You’ll review clinical documentation, assign CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM codes, and ensure compliance with payer, state, and federal guidelines.

The role requires detail orientation, strong coding knowledge, and a collaborative approach. Initial training is completed on-site at our Wausau office, with ongoing professional development and CGIC certification

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Advanced training/certification in billing, coding and insurance required, or equivalent experience.
• CGIC certification within two years of employment.
• Minimum one year of medical coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews documentation and enters codes and charges for professional and ASC services based on provider documentation and service levels.
• Reviews data entry for correct CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10-CM diagnoses, modifiers, units, place of service, NDC codes, and attachments.
• Ensures diagnoses are listed in ICD-10-CM order and payer policy.
• Keeps up-to-date on billing and coding rules, payer newsletters, regulatory guidelines, and submits charges accordingly.
• Provides training to new staff/providers to ensure coding/documentation compliance.
• Communicates coding/billing changes to providers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
