Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a dockworker to efficiently load and unload freight, using forklifts and manual methods while adhering to DOT guidelines. You will secure cargo, monitor locations with yard management, and ensure accurate handling of shipping paperwork.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and teamwork within a fast-paced service center environment. The position requires standing, lifting up to 100 lbs, and operating equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.

Qualifications

• Education: High school degree or equivalent.
• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have knowledge of freight transport procedures and loading techniques.
• Familiarity with freight forms such as shipping orders and freight bills.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Transport self and/or freight throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Monitor freight locations using the Dock Yard Management System.
• Read shipping labels and complete forms like shipping orders, manifests, freight bills and exception reports.
• Hand load, rewrap or stack freight as necessary.
• Ensure the quality loading of all trailers.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, or rope.
• Maintain daily contact with service center personnel in a fast-paced environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
