Job summary

Harmony Senior Services in Lorton, VA is seeking a Cook to prepare meals for residents according to approved menus and dietary needs. The role supports the kitchen in the absence of the Dining Services Director and ensures smooth meal service from 10am to 6pm.

Responsibilities include following recipes, maintaining a clean work area, monitoring temperatures, supervising staff, training new dietary employees, and attending in-service meetings.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in dining services.
• Serv-Safe certified, or willing to complete certification within 60 days of hire.
• Basic understanding of food service operations and duties of dietary staff.
• Ability to read, write, and perform simple calculations.
• Able to learn quickly and follow oral and written directions.
• Experience in food preparation, cooking and estimating quantities.
• Knowledge of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
• Able to stand for long periods and lift 50 lbs regularly.
• Willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present menu items according to standard recipes.
• Maintain a clean, orderly work area and kitchen.
• Participate in weekly cleaning routines with staff.
• Report faulty equipment and damaged items to supervisor.
• Record refrigerator and freezer temperatures twice daily.
• Cool, store, identify and date leftovers properly.
• Observe safety practices and monitor portion sizes.
• Supervise dietary staff in absence of director.
• Attend required in-service and staff meetings.
