Job summary

onX is seeking a Software Development Engineer (full-stack) to build and evolve the Hunt technology powering outdoor experiences. You will work across the stack, focusing on services, APIs, and data used by hunters from planning to navigation.

You’ll collaborate with engineers and product managers, design scalable systems, and contribute to architecture decisions while mentoring teammates and exploring AI-enabled workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in CS/SE.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with API focus.
• Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable microservices.
• Strong API and systems design fundamentals.
• Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Experience with iOS or Android development.
• Evaluate technologies for stability, performance and maintainability.
• Ownership mindset and mentorship focus.
• Curiosity for AI and new tech.
• Strong alignment with onX values.
• Ability to work with engineers across teams.
• Write clean, tested code.
• US work authorization required.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve Hunt experiences across mobile apps, APIs, backend services, and data systems.
• Own technical solutions from design through delivery, addressing architecture, performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Build and support large-scale systems, diagnose complex issues, and continuously improve owned systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and engineers to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code and perform unit/integration/acceptance tests.
• Review code, share knowledge, and mentor other engineers.
• Embed AI into workflows with responsible experimentation and validation.
