Job Summary
onX is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer with a passion for content and the great outdoors. In this role, you’ll help improve and streamline our data processing systems, bringing mapping data to life so users can seamlessly explore and engage with our products. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic growing company focused on making an impact on the business and the mapping industry as a whole. This role will report to the team’s Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable services to support new features and products.
- Use modern JavaScript, TypeScript, Vue, and best practices to build reusable code and libraries for future use.
- Use Golang and best practices to build reusable code and libraries for future use.
- Write unit and integration tests, maintaining adequate coverage.
- Assist in deploying and managing services in Kubernetes.
- Collaborate in architectural decisions across teams.
- Work with SRE and your team to define SLO for services and help monitor and maintain them.
- Mentor other engineers in your team and across the organization.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Location
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub.”
- Corporate Offices: Missoula and Bozeman, Montana.
- Basecamps: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
- Connection Hubs: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- Four (4) or more years of relevant industry experience as a software engineer, with web development as your professional focus for two (2) or more years, and API development for two (2) or more years.
- Recent experience with modern web frontend technologies, using TypeScript and any modern web framework (React, Vue, etc.).
- Expertise in building and debugging scalable distributed services using Golang, REST, and GraphQL.
- Ability to traverse the full stack and trace an issue from the browser to the service container.
- Well–versed in modern API and systems design and development.
- Strong computer science foundation and commitment to writing quality, maintainable code.
- Driven to improve every day, fun to work with, and get stuff done.

- Permanent US work authorization.
Preferred Bonuses
- Experience with Geospatial tools and libraries (PostGIS, BigTable/BigQuery, quadtrees).
- Experience with map viewer technologies such as MapBox.
- Recent SSR experience via React/Next, Vue/Nuxt, Remix, and friends.
- Experience with other languages, including Python and Elixir.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure‑as‑code technologies such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform provider such as Google Cloud Platform.
- Experienced and comfortable with working remotely as part of a distributed team.
Compensation
The expected salary range is $130,000 to $153,000 upon hire. Compensation is based on experience, skills, certifications, and education. Full‑time employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% of company performance.
