Job summary

onX is seeking a Software Development Engineer (full-stack) to help build and evolve the technology powering onX Hunt. You will work across the stack, with a focus on services, APIs, and data that connect to hunter experiences from planning to navigation.

You’ll solve technical problems spanning systems and products, contribute to architectural decisions, and partner with engineers and product managers to build reliable, scalable solutions. This role reports to the Engineering Manager of Hunt.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or related field.
• Five or more years of professional software development with API focus for at least three years.
• Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable microservices.
• Strong API and systems design fundamentals.
• Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Go, Elixir or other functional languages.
• Experience with iOS or Android development.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code and practice good testing.
• Owns features with mentoring and customer focus.
• Curious about new tech, including AI, and aligns with onX values.
• Permanent US work authorization and travel willingness.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve Hunt experiences across mobile apps, APIs, backends, and data systems.
• Own technical solutions from design through delivery, focusing on architecture, performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Build and support large-scale systems, diagnosing issues and improving them over their lifecycles.
• Partner with Product, Design, QA, and engineers to deliver cohesive customer experiences and manage cross-team dependencies.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code and perform unit/integration/acceptance tests for reliability.
• Review code, share knowledge, and mentor other engineers to strengthen craft.
• Explore embedding AI as a co-pilot by integrating experimentation with sound judgment and validation.
